#1 Introduction
GreenHive - UX Research & Product Definition

 Responsibility: UX/UI project

Problem Definition
Urban communities are facing increasing environmental challenges, including:
- Lack of green spaces and poor urban biodiversity.
- Limited public engagement in sustainability initiatives.
- Difficulty in coordinating community-driven environmental projects.
- A disconnect between local governments, sustainability organizations, and residents.

Many urban residents want to contribute to sustainable initiatives, such as community gardens, waste reduction programs, and tree-planting events. However, there is no centralized digital platform that facilitates collaboration, tracks impact, and provides incentives for participation.

Problem Statement
“How might we create a digital platform that empowers urban communities to organize and participate in sustainability initiatives while fostering collaboration between residents, local governments, and environmental organizations?”

Solution Overview
GreenHive is a mobile platform designed to:

✅  Enable communities to create and manage local environmental projects.

✅  Provide a social feed for updates, discussions, and community engagement.

✅  Allow users to track their contributions and earn rewards for participation.

✅  Connect local government entities with citizens to fund and support green initiatives.

✅  Use gamification and impact visualization to encourage continuous engagement.

#2 Design thinking process to solve the problem

Empathize

In this phase, we focused on understanding urban residents, community organizers, and municipality officials to identify their motivations, challenges, and behaviors related to sustainability initiatives.

Problem Definition
I performed interviews with different users to provide a well-rounded understanding of their needs, pain points, and expectations regarding urban sustainability initiatives.

Key Pain Points:

  1. Lack of Awareness: Users don’t know where to find local sustainability initiatives.

  2. Communication Gaps: Organizers struggle to coordinate volunteers using multiple disconnected platforms.

  3. Low Engagement: Residents often forget about events or don’t see the immediate impact of their contributions.

  4. No Impact Tracking: Both citizens and government officials lack clear data on sustainability efforts.

Empathy Map – GreenHive

An Empathy Map is a tool used to gain a deeper understanding of the users, capturing their thoughts, feelings, needs, and pain points. It helps define user personas in a more holistic and empathetic way, which is essential for creating user-centric designs. Below is the Empathy Map for GreenHive, based on the insights from the user interviews and research.

This map synthesizes the shared needs, feelings, and behaviors of all three personas, providing a comprehensive understanding of the challenges and opportunities in the context of urban sustainability initiatives.
